List your top 5 favorite fruits.
Fruits are known to be a great addition to one’s diet.
My Dad’s favourite line was to buy seasonal fruit. There are two advantages
a) the fruit is of good quality
b) The price is reasonable.
Another recommendation is to keep several colours i.e a variety of fruit like orange coloured .. mango and orange , red : apple and plum, and even more .
My memory of Dad at his clinic and a vendor who wanted to leave his basket of fruit there itself . But if the price was not mutually suitable and Dad went home , somehow this vendor would appear with his basket to our home or leave it at his clinic, literally compelling him to buy them, which my Dad did in the end
Mango: my favourite mango is the Alphonso variety which comes from Ratnagiri ( Maharashtra) It’s known as the king of fruit and is very delicious .
My dad had an orchard of mangoes. He was a busy doctor with his own private practise as a GP. So apart from having a portion of the crop for us, he gave the rest on contract. This saved him the problem of miscreants stealing the mangoes at night.
Lychees : are also seasonal. It’s white in colour a little translucent. The good ones are very sweet and juicy.
Grapes : these days grapes are available around the year . There are vineyards in France, Germany, Australia, USA and even in India . I like the sweet variety and usually the green grapes. As you know wine is made from the grapes juice.
Plums : the juicy ones are great. But recently I tasted a variety in Glasgow which did not have any juice and the flesh was firm.
Apple : the apple is good for a whole lot of health conditions. The famous saying ‘ an apple a day keeps the doctor away’ is true in that sense to stay healthy ( but how could I keep my Dad away)
I could tell you about some more fruits that I eat only because they are v good for health . The kivi and avocado are at the top of the list, but not necessarily my favourites.
Let’s hope you will all continue tasting good fruits and may the farmers continue to grow the best of them.
