Have you ever wondered why cakes are made and decorated ?

For every occasion there can be a cake made . A birthday, graduation day, wedding, anniversary, silver and golden …cakes are made even for tea time accompaniments.

There are variety of cakes like 

Madeira, Victoria, cinnamon ,Christmas cakes , stollen cakes, .

Shaped cakes for children and even adults. 

Iced cakes  can be of butter icing, fondant, marzipan, royal icing and many other innovations. 

Traditional Wedding cakes of the past are made of fruit cake, Marzipan and fondant cover and decorated with flowers of hard icing . They are made in tiers.

Wedding cakes of this type take about 15 days to do a thorough job when the flowers , marzipan and fondant are made from scratch I.e not readymade.

Today most cakes are made of soft icing in layers . 

Decoration is an art. You can do designs , borders, shapes and flowers .

You can also do theme cakes 

My daughter is currently doing a ‘tool’ cake as her little son likes playing with tools like the hammer, screwdriver etc. 

I love chocolate truffle cakes . The finish comes smooth and I can decorate it with soft chocolate icing and write the words needed for the occasion. This cake takes about 3 hours to finish an 8” cake. 

Do remember when you want to celebrate an occasion , make it special with a cake and a wish written in icing at the top.

The easy way out is to order one .

However , there is more joy when it is made at home.

What’s the most money you’ve ever spent on a meal? Was it worth it?

The most money I’ve ever spent on a meal was at a Restaurant serving food in the Cordon Bleu style.

We all know that the cuisine in such restaurants is very fine and of a very high quality .

The restaurant that my wife and I dined, was located in South Bombay (Mumbai now). It does not exist anymore unfortunately.

The names of the dishes were very exotic. And we waited for the service after placing our order. I was quite shocked when I saw the dish. The garnish was superb but the portion was too small. As a result we did not feel satisfied.

At the same time we paid a lot.

I’m not surprised, that this would have been the cause for the restaurant to close down if diners did not feel satisfied .

But I spent a lot of money on this meal and did not feel satisfied. Was it worth it ? No .
