Evening Glow

Evening Glow

Streams of light
Shine through at dusk;
Leaves sway
Glisten with glee
Depths of colour
O such beauty.

Gentle as ever
Who art thou?
Dost breeze through
And giveth life.
All eyes on Thee
As a sunflower.

An amazing chorus
Of caws and screams
Of joys and sorrows
You the author of life
Know each moment,
Embracing us All.

Excel in Love

Be Excellent

The perfect stride
And swiftness beyond compare
The Youthful mind
Seeks to  dare!
Without a care!

How long and many
A time the race goes to
The fleet of foot who do not tarry.
Pray is this always True
For me and You?

Oft times, the feet fail
As years go by.
But then let love prevail,
As we strive to excel,
For love never ends.

Romans 16 : 19
‘ be excellent in what is good’

The Star Athlete

The Star Athlete

The February morning looked gray and drizzly through my window
So why would I venture out? It would surely rain cats and dogs. . But then it was time to catch up with my training. Any athlete worth his salt trains cum rain or sunshine.
After all who does not like to win the  Marathon. Rather why should I lose out on training that much harder, to overwhelm the others
Don’t get me wrong. Today a person will use any means to win a medal even by dubious means. So why should I not train honestly to win , or be ahead on my training.
Despite the downcast weather, I forayed out into the gray weather.
Next moment I saw a fellow athlete lying unconscious by the roadside He seemed to be frothing at the mouth. Diverse thoughts strayed through my mind  Either he had an epileptic fit due to congenital epilepsy, or he had a seizure due to some dope being administered for enhanced performance.
This is the story of the star that fell. Peter was tipped to win the  marathon based on his recent timings which were much faster than any other.  All along I doubted his sudden good timings in recent meets.
Now was crunch time. I lifted him up and took him to my cabin; called the doctor . He drove down in quick time. Dr.Sombre  seemed to know Peter’s ailment and helped to revive him
immediately.
However he remained quiet on this matter, and  passed it on as if it was of little consequence.
Much as Peter was my rival,  I was concerned about his seizure.  On persistent questioning he revealed that his doctor was well aware of  the latest methods of doping and had been
administering this substance to improve his performance. Peter realised this was serious and
that more than winning, his very life was on the line .
Peter decided to start afresh. No more dope but from now he , would live on  hope and a prayer . Even though winning still seemed important to him, now the now the means to achieve
victory was even more important.
So ” forgetting the things behind we strive towards the goal”
…The most important of all ….The Crown of life which awaits each of us who run the race of life with great fortitude and courage.

Not a thing

Not a thing

Things to grasp, and possess,

Who can discern,

It’s here today and gone next morn.

Not to hold forever.

We possess only joy,

Of what we give away.

Share with those who have less,

To be a brother in this brief stay.

Fly free from fickle fortunes,

And be content to care for

Others,

And yet be carefree.
After all, it’s not ours to hold,

But yet to be a steward,

Of all He gives,

We came and leave with,

Not a thing!
1 Timothy 6: (7) We brought nothing into this world and we will leave it with nothing. Let us then be content with having food and clothing.

University of Life

There is an adage that says, one needs a good education i.e. degree or post degree , to secure a job and achieve success. So does education really stop after one attains this goal.
Books: let’s see what we read and gain from books. Why does one Read? Is it to study, enjoy a moment of humour, learn about a subject of interest, or just out of curiosity. Well as student one may just go through the motions to prepare for an exam. There again the learning process may only be by rote and the matter is forgotten after the exams. What is the level of interest. I enjoy only what appeals to me. At an age when a young person likes outdoor games, how will books and rote learning interest me. It may if it leads me to its practise in real life what I have read.
Exams: this is one of the most disturbing ways of rating young people. Marks is no criteria to assess one’s level of education, or character formation. Consider the current trends of cheating to gain high marks. After that what is the next step. Exams then only fulfill the purpose of getting good marks and then a certificate.
The University of Life: we now come to the stage of living life after an education which many people realize that the learning process has not stopped. No matter how a student has fared in his academic life with good qualifications, he soon has to learn his new found job from the very beginning. Over and above that he needs to learn how to relate to people in his organisation. How well he learns and how fast, will determine his success in life. So this learning from life is most crucial to a person. He will experience success and failure. What will count is his perseverance. How he relates to his colleagues, his boss and his subordinates, is his key to success. His ability to be a person who gets along well with others and seeks the welfare of others inspite of the daily trials will be a landmark of success.
So the best teacher is life itself and the fruits of perseverance is a more wise and loving person.
This is something that no university can impart except the university of life itself.
